Unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices
Definition
UDAAP is the federal consumer-protection standard that makes unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices unlawful in connection with consumer financial products and services. It is a standard, not a finding about any company.
In plain English
Besides named statutes such as ECOA or TILA, federal law also prohibits unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices in consumer finance. The usual short label is UDAAP. This page names the standard. It does not say that any particular mortgage practice is a violation, and it does not describe enforcement cases.
Technical definition
Official CFPB examination procedures define unfair, deceptive, or abusive acts or practices and locate the prohibition in the Consumer Financial Protection Act. That official definitional material is PRIMARY.
Why it matters
Complaint narratives and research notes sometimes use UDAAP as a catch-all. The page keeps the standard distinct from ECOA and from fair lending.
