Complaint database
Definition
The complaint database is the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s public collection of consumer complaints about financial products and services. It is a dataset, not a finding that a company broke the law.
In plain English
People can send complaints to the CFPB about mortgages and other products. The complaint database is the public record of many of those submissions and company responses. A complaint in the database is not the same thing as a court case or an enforcement action. A consumer complaint is the individual filing; this page is the public database.
Technical definition
The CFPB publishes an official Consumer Complaint Database page. That page is the PRIMARY identity for this data concept.
Why it matters
US Mortgage Index lender profiles may reference complaint records. Readers need the database idea without treating a row as a verdict.
